Where Should We Begin? At Work Gameplay Instructions

Note from Esther:

I love to listen to people share their stories, especially ones they haven’t told before. Whether in my therapy office, on my podcast, or at work, I see stories as bridges that connect us to one another.

I’ve joined forces with Culture Amp, the groundbreaking employee experience platform, to introduce a game designed to transform your work culture—one story and one relationship at a time.

Playing is easy. Just follow these simple steps:

1) Gather your team or a colleague.
2) Pick a card from one of the themes: 1:1 = pencil, Team = paperclip, Anyone = paper.
3) Ask one of the data-backed prompts and take turns responding—listen, reflect, and respond with care.

Skip if it doesn’t feel right—not every card is for every person or every moment. If nothing comes to mind, simply pick another card.

4) Play until you’ve had your fill of great stories.
Tips from Esther:
1) The Art of Listening:

The storyteller may share moments that fall between the cracks of normal conversation. Listen deliberately, with more curiosity and less advice. Don’t be afraid to acknowledge the storyteller by asking a follow-up question.

2) Speak from “I”:

A story is more powerful when told in the first person. Keep it personal, not general. Say “When I . . .” rather than “You know when you . . .”

3) Story Length

This is a game of many stories. Try to keep your tale to a few minutes at most so you can experience them all.

“I believe that human connection has transformative power in all aspects of our lives."
