When Baby Makes Three: Getting Sex off the Back Burner
Researchers now know that marital satisfaction declines dramatically
after the birth of the first child. Mothers are sleep deprived,
their sensuality often focuses on the baby, sex heads for the
back burner, and husbands feel blindsided. It’s a crisis
nobody prepares couples for, and some relationships never recover.
This workshop will teach you how to help couples predict and negotiate
this tricky familial shift with abandoning eroticism. You’ll
learn how to challenge the American cultural stereotype of desexualized
motherhood and help couples create a time and space for sex despite
the presence of children. You’ll leaving knowing how to
help couples find ways to plan sex without killing playfulness
and spontaneity and reconfigure eroticism within the new form
of family life.

of romance?
Sex makes babies, so it is ironic that many couples can trace
the demise of their erotic life back to the arrival of the first
child. Researchers now know that marital satisfaction declines
dramatically following the transition to parenthood. The making
of a family calls for a redistribution of resources and, for a
while, there seems to be less for the couple: less time, less
energy, less intimacy. Mothers are sleep deprived, their sensuality
often focuses on the baby, sex is "put on the back burner",
and husbands feel blindsided. Same sex couples face similar tensions
that transcend normative gender attributions. It’s a crisis
nobody prepares couples for, and some relationships never recover.
But do children extinguish the flames of desire, or is it the
adults who fail to keep the spark alive? This workshop will teach
you how to help couples predict and negotiate this tricky familial
shift with abandoning eroticism. You will learn how to challenge
the American cultural stereotype of desexualized motherhood and
help couples create a time and space for sex despite the presence
of children. You will leave knowing how to help couples find ways
